Art and Design Implementation

  • Art and Design is taught as a subject in its own right yet we place a great emphasis on making links across other subject areas.  We therefore use a cross-curricular approach.  This provides children with opportunties to bring topics to life and in RE, contributes to children's spiritual development.
  • Children will be given many opportunties to produce creative work, exploring their ideas and recording their experiences.
  • Skills (drawing, painting, sculpture etc.) are taught and developed throughout EYFS, Key Stage 1 and 2, showing clear progression.
  • Self-evaluation of work is encouaged and children are taught not only how to articulate their feelings about their work using specialist vocabulary but also how to be resilient in order to achieve their goals.
  • Children will have opportunities to apply these skills when designing their own piece of art work.
  • Our Forest School environment enables creativity in an inspiring setting, including using the natural environment and photography.
  • They will use knowledge they have learnt from evaluating and analysing creative works using the language and vocabularly of art, craft and design, and will study artists to understand their background and influences for their style of art.

There is a clear progression map of skills, knowledge and vocabulary to be learnt in each art topic studied.
