Working with separated parents

Parental separation can lead to some parents becoming estranged from their child and losing contact with school altogether. When a parent loses contact with their child(ren), this can be traumatic for the child(ren) concerned, as they may worry about their parent’s whereabouts and safety, and may blame themselves for relationship breakdown and loss of contact.

At Woodchester Endowed CofE Primary School, we aim to maintain contact with both parents in the best interests of their children.  Our aim is to support both parents so that in turn their child(ren) know that they are safe, loved and cared for by everyone that they know.

In order to support children, we are able to offer emotional literacy support sessions to our children - a course of six week sessions with a trained ELSA worker to allow children to develop emotional resilience, social skills and positive mental health.  Children who may benefit from these sessions will be recommended by the SENCO and parental agreement will be sought.
