Our Vision - 2024
|
Our church school community seeks to inspire children and adults to love, learn and flourish together so we may become everything God has created us to be. 'Love, Learn and Flourish Together' 'Indeed, the body does not consist of one member but of many.' (1 Corinthians 12;14-16) Our Christian vision is rooted in the desire to nurture our community - be it school, village, country or wider world - both now and in the future. It recognises that we are unique individuals, loved by God, each with our own strengths and talents to contribute and that by working together we can achieve more within our community and beyond.

The context of our vision
Our vision is based on 1 Corinthians 12: 14-16. The Apostle Paul wrote a letter to the Christians in Corinth responding to a letter they had sent to him asking for advice about worship and ethics. The heart of Paul’s answers in chapters 12-13 is that they should approach all the ethical dilemmas they faced and all the conflict they were experiencing in the knowledge that they were all members of the body of Christ and that they should behave towards each other with love.
1 Corinthians 12; 14-16
Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ. For we were all baptised by one Spirit so as to form one body – whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free – and we were all given the one Spirit to drink. And so the body is not made up of one part but of many. (12-14)
Now if the foot should say, ‘Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body,’ it would not for that reason stop being part of the body. And if the ear should say, ‘Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body’, it would not for that reason stop being part of the body. If the whole body were an eye, where would the sense of hearing be? If the whole body were an ear, where would the sense of smell be. But in fact God has placed the parts on the body, every one of them, just as he wanted them to be. (15-18)
If they were all one part, where would the body be? As it is, that are many parts, but one body. (19)
What do we know about Paul?
Paul is probably the best known of all the early Christians. Before encountering Jesus on the road to Damascus he was a zealous Pharisee who sought to maintain the purity of Judaism. After his experience on the road to Damascus he turned to proclaiming Jesus among the Gentiles. He travelled around the Roman Empire proclaiming the good news of Jesus and founded communities of Christians as he went. He also wrote a large number of letters, 13 of which are preserved in the New Testament and 1 Corinthians is one of these.

July 2024 Review of Vision and Values
In July 2024, our community came together to review our school vision to see if it still fitted the aims of our school. We sought the views of Governors, Parents, Staff and Children and will be sending it out for review to the wider community in the autumn. We all agreed that our vision suited our school but that we wanted to simplify the values that were derived from our school vision and have agreed the following values and linked bible stories for our school:

Vision and values day
We held a whole school vision and values day to allow our children to understand the basis of our school vision and its theological roots in 1 Corinthians. The day started with a whole school worship exploring the Bible verses that our vision is based on before moving to class activities based on love, learn and flourish together. Our school community created three wonderful pieces of whole school art which hang in our hall with pride.
