How did we celebrate Pentecost?

All week, our children learnt about the Christian festival, Pentecost.  Our learning culminated in a visit to Church to consider our place in the school, the village, the country and finally, the world.

Classes listened to the Pentecost story, learnt about the Holy Spirit and why candles are lit during Worship.  We then thought about how each of us can help our school, our village and the wider community with each of our own special talents.

Our learning culminated in a set of activities in Church, where children were asked to consider how they could individually help our school, our village, our country and our world by living out Christian values.

Year 6 said, “I really liked trying to squeeze the toothpaste back in to the tube. It showed how long unkind words can continue to make someone feel sad.  It’s hard to take those words back.”  Year 5 said, “We did jigsaws that represented our country and how it is run.  One jigsaw was poppies which made me think about the importance of remembrance.”  Ash Class said “I liked picking up and sorting all the rubbish. We have to think about how we can look after our world.”

We would like to say a huge thank you to all of the Church volunteers for their enthusiasm, planning and giving up their time to support our children.  It has been a lovely way to think about how we can work together to allow our different communities to flourish.
