Reviewing a MyPlan

Once the My Plan is written and agreed between the class teacher and parents, it will be regularly reviewed and maintained under a 4-step approach.

MyPlans should be reviewed termly (once every big term) in a meeting between the class teacher and parents. Children do not usually attend these meetings.

During these review meetings, your class teacher will update you on progress made against the targets and your views will be sought as to whether to adjust targets or even remove them if substantial progress has been made.

New targets may also be set to support your child through this next phase.

Transitions of MyPlans to next class/phase/school

If your child is on a MyPlan these will be reviewed during Summer 2 term in readiness for the next school year. Where your child remains at Woodchester for the next school year, the current class teacher will hand over the MyPlan and any supporting information to the next class teacher.  A new MyPlan will then be written during Autumn 1 to take account of the new class or phase (KS1 to KS2) and any new targets.

If your child is moving to a new school, such as a secondary school, then our school will notify the special educational needs co-ordinator (SENCO) at the next school of the MyPlan and provide a copy of the current MyPlan to the new school.   This handover process ensures that the new school has the latest information so that they can support your child as they start the next stage of their educational journey.

What if it is not working?

If parents and school consider that a child is still not making progress, despite a My Plan being in place, school can ask outside agencies for extra advice. This includes educational psychologists (EP), Speech and Language Therapy (SALT), Advisory Teaching Service (ATS) and the Inclusion Team at County.

The school will work with these experts to hone any support required and will update the MyPlan in accordance with their suggestions and advice.  You will receive any reports from these outside agencies and will be able to comment on suggestions as part of the MyPlan review meeting.

What if my child needs more?

Sometimes a child will have a wider range of special educational needs and will require additional support.  If this is the case, the school will work with external agencies to produce a wider plan that may incorporate needs of the family. In this case, the school will create a MyPlanPlus which will be shared between the family, the school and external agencies as required.

Should your child need intensive, specialist support which may require statutory assessment, then the school will follow the process for applying for an EHCP.  Further information can be found here - Gloucestershire EHCP.

Please note that this process is tightly controlled by Gloucestershire County Council and that the school is not able to circumvent any steps or criteria in this process.

Who can I talk to at school?

In the first instance, your child’s class teacher will be able to talk to you about progress, support and any questions that you may have. They can outline the support available in the classroom as well as anything more that your child may require.

The class teacher is able to get support in school through the school SENCO or the Headteacher.  Please note that Mrs Loomes is currently acting as interim SENCO.

If the SENCO or Headteacher feel that further support is required, they will then reach out to other external organisations for support.
