If a pupil is showing neurodiverse traits, school can refer pupils to the Children’s Autism and ADHD Assessment Service (CAAAS) which is a multi-agency assessment service run by the NHS.

A diagnosis does not change the support that the school puts in place for your child and your child will still be supported using the processes described previously if they require additional strategies for support.

Please note that the school is only able to refer any child for an assessment based on the process below. Due to the demands on the service, we are not able to refer any child without the earlier steps in the process being completed.

Please be aware that there is a substantial waiting time for this service and referrals cannot be submitted without the steps highlighted being completed in the right order.
