As part of our Trade topic in geography, Hawthorn and Juniper went on a field trip to a local supermarket and had local business owner (and a parent) Wesley Birch visit us. Our trip to Aldi was a great way for the classes to identify where different food comes from. We found fruit from as far away as Brazil and were surprised to find out Double Gloucester cheese isn’t actually made in Gloucestershire.

Edith’s dad owns a catering company and a pub. He spoke to us about where he gets his food from. He also discussed which fairtrade products he buys and why it is important both for his business and consumers. His talk inspired the classes to consider possible careers in the food industry in the future.
