CROSS COUNTRY SUCCESS
Even by cross country standards, the weather tested arrangements. Unfortunately, due to the immense amount of rain and exceptionally saturated ground, the time and the place was changed and the Year 3 and 4 races postponed on the morning of the event. This was very disappointing for our Year 3 and 4 competitors but we look forward to their races being rescheduled in the near future.
The Year 5 and 6 races moved to Stratford Court playing fields as this was a safer venue for the difficult running conditions. Cross country is a test of strength, courage, resilience and determination and our competitors, all volunteers, should feel very proud indeed with the way in which they represented Woodchester. All of our runners deserve much praise for giving everything and running to the very best of their ability. Towards the end of the event, a lady approached to tell me that some of our children had taken the time and trouble to encourage runners who were struggling to finish and wanted me to know how our children’s kindness had helped to motivate them to continue. Receiving this news was one of the highlights of the afternoon.
All our children ran to the best of their ability, giving their all, but three children, Poppy G, Billy and Inigo ran so well they were placed in the top ten of their races, earning themselves the right to run in the Gloucestershire finals the following Sunday. Congratulations to them and thank you for giving up their Sunday to compete and represent Woodchester.
Well done and congratulations to Team Woodchester (Rory, Torsten, Spencer, Iska, Sophie, Giorgia, Poppy, Max, Leo, Dexter, Frankie, Billy and Leo), you are all cross country stars!
