JUDE STARBEAM STEM WORKSHOP

Today 13th February, children in Hawthorn, Juniper and Willow classes had a very exciting session with Sophie from the ‘On the Button’ Theatre organisation (http://onthebuttontheatre.org/education/) and Dr Rachel, a neuroscientist from Great Ormond Street Hospital.

The children had the opportunity to consider how to rescue an astronaut who suffered a brain injury in space, before having a live zoom and an opportunity to ask Dr Rachel, a real brain specialist, lots of questions.

Children learnt about how the world (and space!) has to be adapted to support people with brain injuries, before asking Dr Rachel as many questions as they could about the brain.  It was fascinating to learn that with the right equipment it is possible to read people’s minds!

Throughout the workshop, children in KS2 listened intently and enjoyed the challenge of various activities.  Hopefully, they learned a lot more about the brain and how it works.

Thank you to Mrs Loomes for organising this workshop and to Sophie and Dr Rachel for sharing their skills and knowledge with us.
