SPORTS DAY AND
FAMILY PICNIC 2023
We couldn’t have asked for a nicer day! The weather was perfect, dry and sunny yet not too hot.
The ‘round robin’ activities gave children from all years groups the opportunity to work together with members of their house teams. Children were encouraged to use a range of physical skills including running, jumping, throwing and balancing to build up points for their house whether that be Merrett, Griffin, Rooksmoor or Egypt. This was also a special time for older and younger children to mix and offer support and encouragement to one another. We had twelve teams in all and they all worked well together building up scores of up to 3000 housepoints.
After a short break and a refreshing ice lolly, we moved back into classes and began the much anticipated traditional races including sprints, egg and spoon, and obstacle. Everyone was cheered on as they competed in the races and these were competitive and exciting. Well done to all children for taking part. These races gave our strongest competitors a chance to shine and enjoy their natural talent and we congratulate all our winners as well as those who were placed second or third. We also say thank you to all children who took part, particularly those who may have felt a little nervous or unconfident racing in front of a crowd of people. You should be very proud of yourselves.
Throughout the morning, there was a warm and encouraging atmosphere with children and adults cheering, supporting everyone and enjoying this special event. Before the winning house was announced our Year 6 children took part in their celebratory and quite emotional run down the track, clapped on by all the crowd. To finish, there was an extra large cheer for our winning house, Griffin, at the end of the competition. Congratulations, Griffin House!
What better way to round off a lovely Sports event than with a family picnic. It was lovely to be able to welcome so many families onto our school grounds to share in a picnic lunch and celebrate such a fantastic morning.
