Small Schools' Football Festival

On Wednesday a squad of ten Year 3 and 4 children and a squad of ten Year 5 and 6 children travelled to Oldends Lane Playing Field in Stonehouse to participate in the small schools’ football festival.  We had a very successful morning indeed.  The Year 5/6 squad played three matches winning two and drawing one.  The Year 3/4 squad played four matches winning three and losing one.  After the group matches, the organisers ranked the teams according to the number of games won, lost and drawn and extra points were awarded for the number of goals scored.  It was very exciting waiting to hear the result of the group matches.

Our Year 5/6 squad had earned themselves a place in the Bronze medal playoff!  They played gallantly against The Croft but eventually lost the match.  Our Y5/6 squad ended the competition in fourth place out of twelve teams—this was a result to be proud of.

Our Year 3/4 squad only earned themselves a place in the final against Amberley!  There was tense excitement in the air as the match began but Woodchester started strongly with two goals in quick succession.  Amberley scored a goal but Woodchester fought on scoring a further two goals.  The match finished 4—1 and we were the overall champions!  Yippee!

Everyone of our footballers excelled.  Yes, they all played incredibly well and their football was great but what stood out was how they all worked as a team—supporting, encouraging and working hard for one another and I couldn’t have been more proud of them all—no matter what the result had been.  Thank you very much to Mr True, Mr Fitzakerley and Mrs Boulton for all their help and coaching support.
