K'nex STEM Challenge
Year 6 were inspired to become engineers of the future this week with the visit of the K’nex challenge and an engineer from local firm Renishaw. As part of encouraging more children to continue with Science, Technology and Maths in later stages of education, the K’nex challenge comes to schools and tasks them with a real world problem to solve using K’nex. After hearing about the work of Renishaw and a fantastic project about growing diamonds from Kat, it was time to build!
This year, the children were asked to work as a team to design and build a sustainable waste recycling plant that could sort different types of waste so that materials could be recovered and reused. There were so many different innovative designs with conveyor belts, grabbers, pulverisers, giant magnets to name but a few. The children were complemented on their designs and commitment as well as team building but sadly there could only be one winning team. Congratulations to Dougal and Sully who will go on to represent the school later in the school year at the grand final.
