Willow Class take up the K'nex Challenge!

On Tuesday the 16th March, Willow Class took part in the Knex Challenge. This is a regular feature of Year 6, where the children have a design brief, and using their engineering skills,  plan, build and improve a design with a mechanism. This year the task was to design a castle with a working mechanism, such as a drawbridge or portcullis.

The children worked brilliantly in pairs demonstrating excellent teamwork and cooperation. They work solidly for a full hour, building, evaluating and improving.

At the end of the hour, we were impressed with the quality of the designs. There were many honourable mentions with Monty and Noah F and Maddy and Lottie; however, the pair who scored the highest on the success criteria were Charlie B and Noah H.  Their impressive solutions for a drawbridge and other mechanisms impressed the K’nex judge. Had it been any other year, the pair would be through to the finals at Renishaw, but it is unlikely to happen this year due to restrictions.
