Here at Woodchester, we aim to teach our children to look at the world around them, to ask questions and to challenge their thinking. Science and the natural world is really important to both children and staff.  From our stunning grounds with a fantastic on-site Forest School, to our nature garden and into the classroom, children have the opportunity to study science and the world around them.

Science is taught in each class on a regular basis, either weekly, or in blocks depending on the topic being studied.  Our curriculum is engaging with lots of hands-on activities allowing children to prove, experiment, challenge and discover.

We run regular KS1 and KS2 after school clubs in conjunction with STEMKids, as well as foster links with organisations such as Dyson and Cyberhub to grow staff knowledge and offer additional opportunities for children.  

For a small village school, we have built up a healthy reputation in the county for Science teaching and subject leadership due to the passion of Mrs Loomes, who has a Science and IT background and believes passionately that Science should be exciting! Mrs Loomes led us through the PQSM - and we were delighted to be awarded the Primary Schience Quality Mark in May 2022 (see tab for more information).  This is a fast paced and indepth look at our Science provision, working with staff, children and the whole school community to take Science from strength to strength.
