EARLY YEARS FOUNDATION STAGE CURRICULUM 2021 and MATHS
At Woodchester Endowed Church of England Primary School we have adopted the new EYFS curriculum from September 2021. The new curriculum for Mathematics has changed and there are now two areas of learning; Number and Numerical Patterns.
What is changing for Mathematics? (Taken from Early Years Alliance Online, October 2021)
- Mathematics includes a greater detail on the importance of shapes, spatial reasoning and measure as part of early Maths learning and how children can foster s love of Maths
- Maths includes a greater clarity to counting and comparing quantities in the Numerical Patterns ELG
- Government focus on number and numerical patterns as the strongest predictor for late Maths outcomes
- Desire to have all children able to start Y1 with a strong and confident foundation in number
Please see the information below that details how EYFS Mathematics progresses from 3- and 4-year-olds, a Reception child and onward to the end of Reception, Early Learning Goals.
