What is a Curriculum?
‘The school curriculum comprises all learning and other experiences that each school plans for its pupils.’
(National Curriculum 2014)
At Woodchester, we follow the EYFS Development Matters (updated July 21) and the KS1 and KS2 National Curriculum 2014 to provide the outline of core knowledge. Around this framework, our teachers develop lessons to promote the development of children’s knowledge, understanding and skills as part of the wider school curriculum.
Termly overviews can be found in the 'Our Classes' section of this website.
Our Vision, Christian Values and Curriculum
‘Indeed, the body does not consist of one member but of many’ (1 Corinthians 12; 14-16)
Our Motto:
‘Love, Learn and Flourish Together’
As a ‘distinctly Christian’ school our Ethos Statement, which underpins our vision, is contained within our Trust Deed (a legally binding document). It states:
‘Recognising its historic foundation, the school will preserve and develop its religious character in accordance with the principles of the Church of England and in partnership with the Church at parish and diocesan level. The school aims to serve the community by providing an education of the highest quality within the context of Christian belief and practice. It encourages an understanding of the meaning and significance of faith and promotes Christian values through the experience it offers to all its pupils.’
We want all of our community to flourish and as such, in designing our curriculum, have carefully considered the elements that are important to us:
- Rich, engaging experiences and a broad curriculum;
- Strong relationships between different communities - school/church/village/wider community including Global (people and environmental);
- Holistic approach - Our Christian Values support the development of the 'whole child' including the socially, morally, spiritually and culturally, not just academic;
- Using, sharing and celebrating talents for the benefit of all - benefitting from Community.
From a Christian perspective, we are all individuals, unique and loved by God. The combination of all our strengths and talents make our school community richer and, those within it, more able to live out God's vision for us as individuals, as a school and church community and as a global community.
Our Christian Values (Generosity, Friendship, Forgiveness, Hope, Trust and Courage) underpin our decision making and ethos and our curriculum is a key driver in achieving our Vision.
