What is the purpose of our Curriculum?

We seek to develop our curriculum so that it continues to reflect and support our Vision and ambition for all our children and that it is broad and balanced, offering rich opportunities to learners that deepen learning.

Our church school community seeks to inspire children and adults to love, learn and flourish together so we may become everything God has created us to be.

We want our curriculum to enable our children to flourish now as well as to prepare them for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of later life whether that be the next stage of their education or to provide personal, social, health and economic awareness to support them in the future.  Our curriculum intent includes:

Opportunities to learn knowledge and skills– to develop a deep body of knowledge, to master key concepts within specific subjects and make rich and powerful connections between subjects to deepen learning.  We carefully sequence the curriculum from Reception to Year 6 to build new learning on existing knowledge and skills and to help make learning ‘stick’.  Subject Leaders and class teachers review and refine the curriculum to meet the needs of all children including those with special educational needs and other vulnerable groups or indeed, those who are able or talented.  We value the progress and fulfilment of all our pupils, balancing the requirement for children to reach national expectations in core subjects with our wider curriculum aims of providing an exciting diet of thoughtful and enriching experiences as musicians, artists, scientists, historians, geographers and responsible citizens.

Awakening an awareness of the world around us and to help children find joy in living and learning through as wide and varied a range of activities as possible, enjoying life in all its fullness and making the most of the community and locality, celebrating religious and cultural diversity and individual talent and achievement.

Our curriculum supports children’s cultural awareness as our is not very diverse, this includes a global dimension compared and contrasted to our local environment.  The curriculum enables children to experience a wide variety of people, religions and cultures gaining global knowledge, respect of British values and a sense of responsibility.  Within our Christian ethos, exploration of our six core Christian values within and beyond the curriculum also supports social, moral, spiritual and cultural (SMSC) development.

Developing high expectations and raising aspirations providing opportunities to develop ‘life skills’, effective personal and social development, excellent behaviours and attitudes, encouraging self-discipline, motivation.  We encourage our children to be independent and resilient whilst our core Christian values (Trust, Truthfulness, Respect, Responsibility, Friendship, Forgiveness) and church school ethos promotes respect for and appreciation of self and others.  The importance of our contribution to community is valued and promoted.

Understanding how to live safe and healthy lives, promoting physical and mental health wellbeing and increasing children’s awareness and knowledge of how to keep themselves safe and healthy.
