Welcome to Ash Class Reception/Year 1
A welcome to Class Ash, by Miss Smith
Ash Class is such a special place - it is the first class for our children as they start on their school journey with us. We aim to make learning fun and at the same time support all of our children to get used to the routines of school. Having a mix of Reception and Year 1 children is really special- our older children help and support our younger children - everyone grows in confidence!
Through the use of continuous provision and child-led learning, there is much to entertain and support our children as they become used to the classroom. The classroom is split into different areas - reading, writing, numbers, construction and craft so that children can choose activities that stimulate them and allow them to explore in a safe manner. The room opens onto an outdoor covered play area just for Ash children, who make good use of this safe, fun area to play and learn with sand, our play shop and playhouse, or with the educational toys.
Reception children follow the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum which is based on the principles of giving Early Years children the best possible start in life. We put this into practice by allowing the children to play and explore in an inviting environment; encouraging active learning and creative thinking.
The Year One children follow the National Curriculum as we build on the foundations of the Reception Year but still maintain the hands on learning experiences.
